As a member of a faith community, you carry a deep well of experience—from supporting others through life’s challenges to navigating the joys and pressures that come with being a source of care and connection. By sharing your stories, you can offer comfort, encouragement, and perspective to others walking a similar path, reminding them they are not alone.

Use these step-by-step instructions to create a well-rounded peer profile for Kindly Human.  Review each of the video tutorials below for details and follow the prompts for a seamless onboarding experience.

How to prepare to record your 3 audio and 3 video experiences:

To get started, you’ll begin by recording one video experience by email (see below) and submitting it for review. Before you hit record, we highly recommend writing out your experience first to help ensure your message is clear, cohesive, and true to your voice.

After you receive notes and complete all three video experiences, our team will reach out with next steps for building your Peer profile. Your profile begins with a short personal bio (3–5 sentences, submitted by email) that gives members a meaningful introduction to who you are.

We’ll then send a link to complete your digital intake, where you’ll securely provide your contact information (kept fully private from members), upload a high-quality headshot, and begin recording your three audio experiences. These will be submitted one at a time and reviewed with the same supportive process as the videos.

Once all profile elements and recordings are finalized, you’ll receive your financial compensation through our payment partner, Stripe.

Step 1: Recording a Video

Here are some key guidelines for recording a great video experience.

  • Record in vertical mode on your phone, ensuring your face is centered with space above and below.
  • Hold the phone at eye level to maintain natural eye contact. Do not be looking down at the camera.
  • Pick a quiet location with a neutral background—avoid distractions, clutter, a fan or other people in the frame.
  • Keep it professional yet friendly by avoiding logos, hats, profanity, or slang.
  • For a smooth flow, start by introducing yourself—first name only—then share your story, how you overcame the challenge, and a message of encouragement for others. Speak naturally, as if you're talking to a friend!
  • Do not have a microphone or headphones showing in your video.
  • Avoid doing multiple takes and splicing the clips together.  Jump edits can be distracting to the viewers. Fluid recordings are ideal.
  • Please prepare yourself visually and orally for the recording. Make sure you are put together with your hair done, clean business casual attire, and make sure you are in an environment that will provide optimal recording such as pleasant lighting and minimal reflections.
Click the button above to submit your video by email to peers@kindlyhuman.com.  Include a copy of your headshot photo to use as the thumbnail for the video.

Step 2: Writing Your Mini-Bio

Your bio helps members get a warm first impression of who you are, so keep it brief, authentic, and focused on what you want others to know about you.

Aim for 3–5 sentences that highlight a few key pieces of your story—such as your background, interests, values, or what inspires you to connect with others. You don’t need to share anything overly personal or detailed; think of it as a friendly introduction that reflects your personality and the heart you bring to this role. If you’re unsure where to start, consider what you’d say if someone asked, “Tell me a little about yourself.” Keep it simple, genuine, and written in your natural voice. Once completed, you’ll email your bio to our team for review.

Step 3: Build your Peer Profile + Profile Image

Once your videos are approved and your bio is submitted, you’ll be ready to set up your Peer profile within our Peer Web App. This step gathers everything we need to introduce you authentically and professionally to members. You’ll provide your contact information (kept fully private from members), upload a profile image, and begin recording your three audio experiences directly in the app.

Peers are required to use a photo of themselves as their profile picture. Your image should reflect a friendly, professional presence—think business casual, approachable, and clear. This isn’t the place for filters, social media-style photos, or anything that feels like a dating profile. Your picture should simply help members feel welcomed and grounded in who you are.

After your profile image and contact information are submitted, you’ll record your audio experiences one at a time. Each recording will be reviewed with the same thoughtful process used for your videos. Once all elements of your profile are complete and approved, you’ll be ready for activation.

Step 4: Recording your audio

Here are some key guidelines for recording a great audio experience.

  • Do not say your last name during your introduction. Your first name will be on your profile and that’s plenty.
  • Peer recordings must present your experiences honestly and with an authentic voice.
  • Peer recordings must be clear and easily heard.
    • Low volume, background noise, or a poor connection will not be accepted.  Many microphones are sensitive, so we suggest avoiding a lot of movement.
    • Have a natural cadence to your delivery.
  • Ideal length for recordings is 60-90 seconds

  • Please use the playback feature to review your recording for quality before submitting.
