What is a Kindly Human Peer?

Our life experiences allow us to gain knowledge that can be valuable to others.  You have a unique opportunity as a Peer to support others who work with seniors in assisted care environments. Peers on our platform offer up their real-life experiences paired with some compassionate words of encouragement to help others feel more seen and heard.  This is a one-time project to pay it forward.  Helping others couldn’t be easier!

Become a Kindly Human Peer.

Simply record your own experiences for the Kindly Human platform in the form of a story.

After answering questions to populate your peer profile, the recording is done directly on the Kindly Human platform.

How to prepare to record your experience:

It is highly recommended that you write your experience down before starting your recording to ensure that the message is clear and cohesive.

Here is an example of a successful experience recording broken down into its four parts. It is answering the prompt for Caregivers:

Introduction: Being a home health aide is a hard and sometimes thankless job. My patients aren’t always mentally capable of remembering me or understanding what I’m doing for them.

Middle: When a family I was working with had questions about my care, I immediately felt very defensive. I work so hard to provide a safe and secure environment for my patients and feeling like I was being questioned rubbed me the wrong way. What I was forgetting was how scared that family was to see their loved one in that condition.

End:  I have worked with the elderly for many years. I have seen patients come and go in varying stages of readiness. This was their first time seeing their mom approach the end of life and it must have been terrifying.

Encouragement: It’s not easy, but remembering you are doing your best is essential. When I remind myself that I am only one person among many who care for residents in the building, it makes it easier to feel secure in my decisions. If you are struggling in your field, remember to trust yourself that you are doing all you can!
